About FixMyHome
FixMyHome is a free reference site for US homeowners facing a misbehaving appliance or a home project number they cannot work out. It is built around one idea: when something in your home breaks, you search the exact problem, and the first useful answer should tell you what it means, what you can safely check yourself, and when to stop.
Our Method
Every error code guide is decoded from the manufacturer's own documentation for that appliance family: official code lists, owner manuals and published support material. We rewrite those sources in plain English, rank the causes by how often they actually occur, and add the practical context manufacturers leave out, like typical US part prices and repair costs, labelled as estimates.
What We Do Not Claim
We do not claim to be repair technicians, and we do not invent hands-on experience, review credentials or testing we have not done. Where a fix needs a technician, the guide says so plainly and explains why. Prices are indicative estimates, not quotes. If a guide and your model's official manual ever disagree, follow the manual.
Safety Boundaries
Our guides stop at checks that can be done safely from outside the machine with the power off where instructed. We never publish instructions for gas line work, opening sealed refrigerant systems, or bypassing safety devices such as door locks and thermal fuses. Furnace content is limited to decoding codes and external checks like thermostats, switches, breakers and filters.
Who Runs This Site
FixMyHome is operated by an independent publisher. Questions, corrections and code requests are welcome at the contact page. If you spot a code meaning that does not match your model's documentation, tell us the model number and we will check and fix it.
